Paris Saint-Germain Edges Olympique de Marseille via Spot-Kicks to Lift French Season-Opening Trophy in Kuwait.

PSG players celebrating

The Parisian club has now claimed the season-opening trophy on 14 different times.

The Parisian giants required a dramatic equaliser followed by a successful spot-kick decider to overcome their arch-rivals in the Gulf and capture a fourth straight Trophee des Champions victory.

The European champions seemed to be coasting towards a comfortable triumph in the match featuring the Ligue 1 winners and the French Cup holders after Ousmane Dembele opened the scoring early on.

However, the southern French side fired two times in the closing moments to take a surprise lead. First, Mason Greenwood scored from the penalty spot, before Willian Pacho inadvertently directed the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a breathtaking twist of events, Goncalo Ramos grabbed a crucial equaliser in the final moments to force the match into a deciding shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Chevalier then stood as the key figure, saving crucial attempts from O'Riley and Traore.

From the spot, Goncalo Ramos, Vitinha, the full-back, and the young talent all scored successfully for PSG to seal a 4-1 penalty win.

Now 14-time champions PSG, who faced last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Marseille after achieving a league and cup double, have now won this trophy for the twelfth time in the past thirteen years.
